The idea for Dr. Heff’s mints came in a rare flash of inspiration at a dental conference in London, when Toby and Mike discovered by chance that they were both trying to solve one of dentistry’s great dilemmas: how can dentists help their patients combat tooth decay as it occurs throughout the day.

Although there is already a significant body of scientific research on the benefits of Xylitol, they felt they could do better – and invent a new mint that was truly remarkable!

As dentists, we’re always looking to help our patients improve their smile. With over 40 years’ experience between us, we know that tooth decay is still a major health problem, which causes eating difficulties and bad breath, as well as damaging people’s confidence. Newspaper headlines offer frequent warnings about the excessive levels of sugar in modern diets and the misery suffered by children when they require tooth extractions because of decay. Of course, tooth decay affects older generations too. As our gums recede as we grow older, the roots of the teeth are gradually exposed, making them prone to rapid decay – which is now the number one reason for loss of teeth in the over 65s.
